Goals

  • Recognize and understand domestic violence and its impacts
  • Develop protection strategies
  • Become aware of emotions in a safe space
  • Promote the development of a support network and access to available resources
  • Regain healthy control over one’s life
  • Improve non-violent communication skills

Trajectory

Initial phone contact

To begin a process with AVIF, we ask that the man contacts us himself by phone. An initial phone call with a counselor will be conducted to establish a connection, assess his situation, and explain our services.

Intake meetings

He will then meet with a counselor as part of the intake process. This process, which typically requires 2 meetings, helps to identify the man’s needs and gives the participant an opportunity to reflect on the goals he wishes to pursue in his journey.

*Please note that there may be a delay of a few weeks between the initial contact and the first intake meeting.

Individual counseling

Depending on the participant’s identified goals, individual counseling consisting of 8 to 10 sessions is offered.
